Albertine Badolé does not remember when a worm first wriggled across her eyeball.

It was many years ago, but what she can still recall is the itching and the swelling in her face.
“Sometimes when I slept, I could feel the worms, there were little lumps on my body, and my eyes… It was like things were moving inside me,” the 54-year old says, sitting outside her house in the remote village of Sindara in the rainforests of Gabon. “It was too much.”
